Territory Wars: Defensive Teams

Hello all. The purpose of this post is to give you ideas on what the ideal defensive teams look like so that you have something you can work toward.

TW Characters better left on Offense




1) Sith Triumvirate

Best Version:

zzTraya (L) / zSion / zNihilus / Sith Trooper / (one of: zNest, Sith Assassin)


What's important:
  • It should be obvious, but Traya needs BOTH of her zetas to be effective.
  • Speed order:
    • Nest
    • Sion
    • Nihilus
    • Traya
    • Trooper
Mods:
  • Trooper wants Protection.
  • Everyone else wants both speed and health.
    • They also want offense.
      2) CLS

      Best Versions:

      zzzCLS (L) / zzChewbacca / zHan Solo / zOld Ben / Enfys Nest
      zzzCLS (L) / zzChewbacca / zHan Solo / Chirrut / Baze
      zzzCLS (L) / zzChewbacca / zHan Solo / STH / zOld Ben

      What's important:
      • Typically, you want R2-D2 on your RJT team in TW. Whereas he's good with CLS in arena play, taking him away from RJT in TW is probably a less optimal move.
      • Ideally, Chewie has guard on both Han and CLS.
        • This will shift around from one character to another if you continue to have successful defenses with this team, since effective hitpoints will fluctuate.
      • If you are using Old Ben, he NEEDS his special zeta'd.
      Mods:
      • Don't need a lot of speed - team relies on counter attacks via CLS Leadership.
        • "Rebel Triumvirate" all want Offense and Crit Damage
          • Han wants a CD mod set and CD triangle
          • CLS/Chewie are fine with either CD or Offense mod set + CD triangle
        • Speed is still nice to have, but on defense this team does not need arena mods
      3) Bounty Hunters

      Best Versions (top to bottom is best to worst):

      zzBossk (L) / Boba Fett / Dengar / zEmbo / zJango
      zzBossk (L) / Boba Fett / Dengar / zJango / Greedo
      zzBossk (L) / Boba Fett / Dengar / Any mix other than the above - they will all die relatively quickly
      zzJango (L) / Boba Fett / Dengar / zEmbo / zBossk (if you have this team, consider keeping it for offense)
      Boba Fett (L) / zBossk / Dengar / whoever else

      What's important:
      • If you're going to run Bossk lead, his zeta is a requirement
      • Embo and Jango are both top-5 BH. They aren't farmable as of yet (10/14/2018), but once they are, they replace any of the other BH.
      • Boba-led BH are not very strong. Don't expect much from them.
      • ALL lineups need Dengar, Bossk, and Boba.
      Mods:
      • Bossk wants defense and protection, then speed.
      • Everyone wants PROTECTION if under zBossk Lead.
      • Everyone wants POTENCY if under Boba Lead.
      4) Nightsisters

      Best Versions (top to bottom is best to worst):

      zzAsajj or zzTalzin lead / Daka / Zombie (G10+) / Spirit
      zzAsajj (L) / zTalzin / Daka / Zombie (G10+) / Nest
      zzAsajj or zzTalzin lead / Daka / Zombie (G10+) / Talia
      zzAsajj or zzTalzin lead / Daka / Zombie (G10+) / Acolyte

      What's important:
      • G10+ Zombie is REQUIRED for defense.
        • There is zero reason to put a NS team on defense without G10+ Zombie.
        • G11 and G12 zombie are preferable to G10.
      • Nest is great with NS, but Spirit is better.
        • zzTalzin is slightly better with Spirit because of her zeta resurrect ability
      • Both Asajj and Talzin are great at defense.
      • Asajj and Talzin both really like the following:
        • Unique zetas (both are REALLY strong, and make them relevant when they aren't lead)
        • G12 Medpacs (they're super squishy - a little extra health goes a long way, especially on NS)
          • Daka and Zombie and Nest all also really like that medpac. Zombie is actually the last in line for it.
          • In order, medpack priority is:
            • Asajj
            • Nest
            • Talzin
            • Daka
            • Zombie
      Mods:
      • Asajj needs Crit Damage and Offense and then speed (she's greedy)
      • Talzin wants Speed, then Offense, then Crit Chance
      • Spirit wants Speed, then REALLY HIGH Crit Chance
      • Nest wants Speed and Crit Damage and then Offense.
      • Daka wants Speed and Health.
      • EVERYONE wants as much health as possible(protection isn't worth much to NS)
      5) Qi'ra

      Best Version:

      Qi'ra (L) / L3-37 / Zaalbar / Vandor Chewbacca / (one of: Young Han, zMission, Nest)

      What's important:
      • Nobody NEEDS a zeta, but everyone really benefits from one. Zeta priority for THIS team:
        • Mission (if she's chosen, her zeta is required)
        • Vandor Chewbacca
        • Qi'ra
        • Young Han
      • This team thrives on defense and (very) slowly whittling an enemy team down. Don't try it on offense, it won't really work.
      Mods:
      • Everyone but Vandor wants max protection (it goes with Qi'ra lead ability)
      • The fifth slot wants Crit Damage.
      6) zMaul / zBarriss

      NOTE: These are now considered sub-optimal defensive teams. They're fine for TW, but premier characters SHOULD NOT be included in these squads, nor should anyone be putting a zeta on Maul or Barriss for the sake of TW defense.

      Best Version:

      zMaul (L) / zSavage / Sidious / Sith Assassin / Some other Sith or other thing

      GK (L) / zBarriss / JKA / Guys that hit hard and have okay HP

      What's important:
      • As stated above, please don't waste great characters on either of these squads.
      • IF you don't have a zBastila squad yet, GMY and HY can go in the Barriss squad.
      • Please don't zeta either of these guys. They're relics. Non-relevant.
      7) First Order

      Best Version:

      zzKRU (L) / zFOST / zKylo Ren / FOO / FOX

      What's Important:

      • KRU Lead zeta is required to make this team good
      • Other zetas are also advisable, but not necessary.
      Mods:
      • FOX wants Crit Damage and Health
      • FOO wants a LOT of speed
      • Tanks all want Protection and speed.

      8) zzPalpatine

      Best Version:

      zzPalps / zVader / Tarkin / Tank / Other Empire or Sith character

      What's Important:

      • Because Palpatine is off of the "best of" list for Traya teams, he can have his own (obviously inferior) Empire team.
      • You want the Triumvirate of Traya, Sion, and Nihilus to stay together. NONE of them belong on this particular team.
      Mods:
      • Palpatine wants protection and potency
      • Everyone probably wants potency, except for the tank.
      • Tank wants Protection. Storm Trooper or Shore Trooper are ideal tanks for this team, BTW. Royal Guard will work too if you have him geared.
        • Double tank is also solid for this team.

      9) Defensive Specialists Teams

      The goal for Defensive Specialists is to maximize defensive output, while keeping two solid teams for offense. Usually, our rule is to NEVER deploy zBastila or RJT teams on defense. While this is still probably advisable, if you find yourself with too many solid offensive teams, here are some ideas to use them on defense:

      RJT / R2 / BB-8 / zL3-37 / T3-M4
      • Zeta on L3-37 is required
      • Zetas on T3-M4 are advised, especially the Armor Penetration zeta
      • If you do this team, you can't really do the Qi'ra team. Just something to keep in mind.
      zBastila / zEzra / zGMY / zJolee / zOld Ben
      zBastila / zEzra / zGMY / zJolee / GK
      • Old Ben is probably better than GK as a tank.
        • If you take Old Ben, he should really have his Special zeta'd. He's too good with that zeta to avoid it.
      • Zeta on Jolee is preferred, but honestly... don't do it just for this team, unless Kappage's team starts really wracking up the kills.
      • Jolee DOES need to be at least G10 and have most of his Omegas.
      (this list will continue to change and evolve as new ideas present themselves)


      TW Defense Characters to work on:

      If you want to target JUST ONE character to make an impact on TW, here are some suggestions:
      • Chewbacca (goes with CLS, makes the team awesome)
      • G10+ NS Zombie (REQUIRES G10 to make NS work. More gear is better now.)
      • zBossk (he NEEDS his lead zeta for defense, but makes BH very strong in TW)
      • zNest (more than any other character, Nest is a plug-and-play defensive BAMF
      • Qi'ra team (it's a whole team (#5 above) but it's the most efficient defensive team by far)
      • Sith Trooper (if you have the rest of the Triumvirate geared, he's a great add)

      Characters better left on offense:


      The list below is exactly what I just said - they should almost always be kept for offense, as their rules or AI make them awful on defense:

      • Thrawn
      • Wampa
      • Hermit Yoda
      • Probe Droid
      • Rex (incidentally, goes very well with Wampa and Probe Droid)
      • Hopefully not Revan
